Former Indian selector Dilip Vengsarkar feels that Team India needs to develop bench strength for the future. He touted Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad as the two prospects, saying that the team also needs to spot fast bowlers and spinners.

With the West Indies tour slated to take place next, some harsh calls along with decisions for the future are likely to take place as suggested by various media reports. It is also learned that few youngsters are likely to be drafted into the team and one among them has been Yashasvi Jaiwsal.

Since the last one year, Yashasvi Jaiswal has performed exceptionally well in the domestic circuits, smashing tons and winning games. He made his presence felt even in the IPL as he was amongst the leading run-getters in the tournament with 625 runs to his name.

Dilip Vengsarkar highlighted the importance of bench strength for the future and named Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad as the two key players going into the future. Speaking to RevSportz, he said:
“We need to develop our bench strength because that is very important. Unless you have bench strength, you cannot do well in any format. And I am sure we have tremendous talent in the country. In the next 10-15 years, we can do well.”
“Yes, there are a lot of young talents coming up. Yashasvi Jaiswal is one of the players for the future. Ruturaj Gaikwad is another one. The selectors need to spot some fast bowlers and spinners who could win you matches, and that is very important.”

Dilip Vengsarkar further backed the Indian selectors, who are facing the backlash for the selection after the loss in WTC Final. He said that it was a great achievement to reach the final and he’s sure that India will have a bright future. He explained:
“Nobody is happy with the selection, as people feel X and Y should be there in the team. You cannot make everyone happy. Every selector has his viewpoint, and they go about it according to their instincts. But I am sure India have a very bright future with a lot of young talents coming up. It was a tremendous achievement by the team to reach the final of World Test Championship, and I hope we will do better in future.”
India team will be next seen in action when they will travel to West Indies for the full tour. They will play 2 Tests, 3ODIs and 5T20Is in the Caribbean. The Tour will begin from 12th July.
