Where do you see yourself at 3 A.M. on any given Friday (or Saturday, I suppose—for the sake of accuracy)?
Your answer will probably depend on your capacity for partying, cheap liquor, unwanted suitors, and expensive Uber rides, falling into one of two general categories: blitzed at some ungodly bar or safely home asleep.
However, a third, secret option is available to Trollhaugen, Wisconsin locals. Hint: it involves skiing.

Trollhaugen’s Late Night Fridays are a long-running tradition, so long, in fact, that they were covered by a 2006 article from The New York Times. When that article was published, the event series had already existed for 16 years—now, it’s been running for multiple decades.
The official time frame for Late Night Fridays is 9 P.M. to 3 A.M.—stunningly late for skiers used to phoning it in around the 3 P.M. mark. Bands play from 10 P.M. to 1 A.M. This season, Trollhaugen will host 16 Late Night Fridays, eight of which have already happened.
I hear ya. Isn’t 3 A.M. late? It is. You’re not wrong.
But anyone who’s gone night skiing knows the truth—something about skiing near the witching hour under ethereal ski resort lights is a kind of natural stimulant that imbues skiers of any age with a special energy boost. In short, it gets the people going.
And, as an added selling point, shelling out for a lift ticket stings less than an astronomically expensive Uber ride. Good deal. Just remember that Trollhaugen’s Late Night Friday’s are often snapped up in advance, so don’t hesitate to get in on the action if you’re interested.
