Brian Head Resort, Utah, saw the arrival of something approximating winter today, September 12th.
The Utah-based resort shared a video with Powder documenting a slushy mix of rain, sleet, and hail that buffeted the resort.

This storm, which hit Brian Head earlier today, clearly operates in the marginal grey area between above and below-freezing temperatures. It’s almost snow, but not quite — a statement that you could reasonably debate.
If this video were taken in December, I, alongside anyone invested in the snow conditions at Brian Head, would be aghast. No one wants to ski while something’s falling from the sky that may or may not be snow.
Thankfully, though, it’s September, a time of the year when sleet actually is a cause for celebration because sleet, or whatever you want to call what Brain Head filmed, is one step closer to snow.
As of today, we’re exactly 59 days away from the planned first day of Brian Head’s winter season: November 10th. And if it’s already almost snowing at the Southern Utah resort, that hopefully means we have plenty of time for Mother Nature to bring out the big guns.
