New York Mets relief pitcher Drew Smith achieved the rare accomplishment of making an official pitching appearance without actually throwing a pitch.
The reason? He got ejected for having a sticky substance on his hand in the sixth inning of the Mets’ game against the New York Yankees on Tuesday.
As Smith was checked by the umpire upon his entry into the game, it quickly became obvious that there was a problem, and despite his best explanation (or attempted one) he ended up getting the boot from the game.
