The 2023 Little League World Series is in the books and it is the team from El Segundo, California that is taking home the crown thanks to a dramatic 6-5 win over Curacao on Sunday evening.
California’s Louis Lappe was the hero with a dramatic walk-off home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to clinch the championship.
Have a look.
California had jumped out to a 5-1 lead, but Curacao was able to tie the game on a two-out grand slam in the top of the fifth inning.
That momentum would not last, however, and set the stage for Lappe’s walk-off shot.
This is the second year in a row that a team from Curacao reached the championship game and lost. Last year’s team lost by a 13-3 margin in the championship game to Hawaii.
This is the fifth year in a row a team from the United States won the championship.
The Little League World Series is an annual event in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, bringing in teams from all over the world for a chance to play on a global stage and get a big league feel for a few weeks. It is always a big opportunity for every kid involved, and especially so when they have an opportunity to do what Lappe did on Sunday and win a championship with a home run.
That is the thing that every young baseball player dreams of and he got to do it on the biggest possible stage for his age group.
