It has been a long season for the Oakland A’s, and when you are one of the worst teams in baseball you will sometimes have some embarrassing moments happen.
That is what transpired with starting pitcher Luis Medina in the second inning of Saturday’s game against the Washington Nationals.
The play started innocently enough with Media making a nice play to snag a comebacker from Washington’s Ildemaro Vargas.
But instead of throwing the ball to first baseman Tyler Soderstrom for the first out of the inning, Medina slowly jogged over toward first base and held onto the ball, completely forgetting about the baserunner.
Vargas, being alert and seeing what was happening in front of him, started to sprint at the last minute and somehow beat the play out for an improbable infield single.
