Ski jumping is an odd niche of skiing, wherein airborne athletes don skin-tight suits and strap on incredibly long skis before attempting to leap as far as humanly possible.
It’s wacky, to say the least. But it is also loads of fun to watch, particularly when a unique camera angle is involved, as with this video from skier and content creator Anthony Robert.

I’ve seen a lot of GoPro mounts in my day, but the chest strap with a stick thingy Robert has going on is new to me. Honestly, strapping on a gadget like that before flying through the air would make me nervous.
What if you crash and get tangled up with the metal stick? That probably wouldn’t feel so good. But hey, that’s just me, And for the record, I probably wouldn’t attempt ski jumping anyway, so my concerns are more of a me problem than anything else.
As for Robert, he’s an odd duck when it comes to ski content creation. Normally, ski jumpers are sequestered away from the rest of the sport, tirelessly training at some Olympic center.
But Robert’s videos include a mix of ski jumping and, y’know, regular skiing. He’s clearly not just a ski jumper, touting a mean backflip and strong freeride skills. Sometimes, he combines these two categories, taking tricks like frontflips to the ski jumping course.

To get to the bottom of Robert’s slightly confusing status as a skier, I did a little digging but came up mostly empty-handed. While Robert has an FIS (one of the largest snowsports competition governing bodies in the world) profile, it seems that he’s only competed in Nordic combined, but not ski jumping.
Thus, the mystery of Robert’s multi-discipline talents remains. Who knows? Maybe I’ll get a chance to ask him about his ski-jumping skills some day.
