Conditions are firing down in South America, with storms depositing multiple inches of the good stuff.
Case in point: this video of skier Dorian Densmore shredding a wide-open powder in Las Leñas, Argentina.

Very big first day back, indeed.
While Las Leñas has had a slow start to the season, the resort enjoyed a powder-laden storm network last weekend that deposited about three feet of snow.

After the storm, the resort announced yesterday that they would open three new lifts: Caris, Minerva I, and Minerva II.
However, based on several comments posted to the resort’s Instagram, some Argentinian skiers expressed frustration with the service Las Leñas has provided over the past few days. One skier was disappointed that the fresh snowfall made traveling to the resort difficult. Another pointed out that Las Leñas struggled to open popular lifts over the weekend. The organization of the parking lot seemed to be another issue bothering skiers.
When a resort finally starts getting snow, tensions amongst powder-hungry skiers become elevated. Thus, I understand the disappointment. It’s normal not to want to deal with tricky road conditions and delayed lift openings when all you want to do is to take advantage of a recent storm cycle.
However, despite the quibbles, the new snowfall bodes well for the South American skiers. Here’s to more of the white stuff down South in the future!
