The heroic ski dad, saddled with all of his family’s ski gear on the walk to the hill, is a fabled character on the slopes. Sure, said character is something of an outdated trope these days—ski moms exist, too.
Even as times change, though, the ski dad lives on, as evidenced by this recent Reddit post, which featured a dad carrying four pairs of skis.

Some responders to the post commiserated with the overburdened dad, sharing their tales of carrying massive amounts of ski gear.
“Hate being a ski mule,” wrote one skier.
“Been there. Even had folks chant ‘Dad, Dad, Dad!’ at me while hauling four sets of skis through the Mt bachelor parking lot,” said another. “After that experience, we bought Velcro ski straps to help the kids carry their gear. Best 12 bucks ever.”
While I imagine few ski dads hit the impressive four-ski mark, there is something universal about this post. Skiers tend to try to get their kids into skiing. Problem is, skiing isn’t all that much fun when you’re little, it’s cold, and you’re learning the ropes.
Thus, you end with situations like this: a parent desperately striving to keep their kids stoke for skiing alive.
I’m sure it can feel like a thankless task, but know this. As a child of parents who forced me to go skiing even when I didn’t want to, I’m eternally grateful—they gave me a lifelong gift. Schlepping your kids’ gear is a long game, but it eventually pays off when those tots grow up to become competent ski buddies. Hopefully they learn to carry their own gear, too.
