Baseball’s all-time hits leader Pete Rose has vocalized his opinion of the gambling scandal surrounding Shohei Ohtani’s former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, since the Dodgers fired him in March. Rose trolled the Dodgers superstar and his former interpreter again at an autograph signing over the weekend.
At a signing Fiterman Sports Group signing in St. Paul, Minn., Rose took the opportunity to sign three baseballs with different notes. The first said, “Sorry I bet on baseball.” The second said, “Ohtani is sorry too.” The third said, “I wish I had an interpreter.”
Rose was permanently banned by MLB in 1989 after an investigation concluded he bet on baseball while managing the Cincinnati Reds. He denied the allegations for decades until 2004, when he finally admitted that he placed wagers on the sport he loved so dearly.
The hit king doesn’t believe Ohtani is innocent even though federal investigators cleared the two-way superstar of any wrongdoing. The investigators also said Ohtani is a victim in this case after Mizuhara stole more than $16 million from him.
Major League Baseball has decided to pause its investigation until Mizuhara’s criminal case is closed.
