Paula Badosa went through an awkward exchange with a reporter following a disappointing end to her Wimbledon campaign. On Friday, Badosa took on Marta Kostyuk in the Wimbledon second round. With Kostyuk 6-2 1-0 up, Badosa retired the match due to her ongoing back injury, which also forced her to miss the French Open.
But when Badosa entered the press room, one reporter started questioning her as if she was the winner in the Kostyuk match. “Congrats for your win,” a reporter told Badosa in the first question that the Spaniard received. Badosa bluntly responded: “I lost.” “Could you please tell us about your fitness and confidence levels, please?” the reporter continued.
Badosa added more bluntly: “For your information, I just lost. I didn’t win.” The moderator also jumped in, saying: “She didn’t win.” The reporter was stunned after realizing Badosa actually didn’t win as he responded: “Not win?”

Badosa returns to action at Wimbledon but it doesn’t go well
After suffering a back injury in Rome, Badosa was forced to miss the French Open and she also wasn’t able to play any WTA grass tournaments leading up to Wimbledon.
Earlier this year, Badosa also skipped the Australian Open. After missing the first two Grand Slam tournaments of the season, Badosa didn’t want to also miss out on Wimbledon. The week before Wimbledon, Badosa was practicing with her new boyfriend Stefanos Tsitsipas in Mallorca and hoping to be ready for Wimbledon.
In the end, Badosa managed to play at Wimbledon, where she defeated Alison Riske-Amritraj in the first round. But after beating Riske-Amritraj, Badosa’s back injury reappeared against Kostyuk. After retiring injured against Kostyuk, Badosa also said she would not be able to play in the Wimbledon mixed doubles with Tsitsipas.
Now that Badosa’s Wimbledon campaign is officially over, she will presumably turn her focus on getting fit for the summer hard court tournaments.
