2023 Women’s Tennis ITA Regional Awards
CHICAGO – University of Chicago women’s tennis player Claudia Ng and Head Coach Jay Tee both garnered year-end regional awards from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Wednesday.
Ng was named the ITA Senior Player of the Year in the Central Region. She posted career highs in both singles victories (23-3) and doubles victories (28-8). Ng played primarily at No. 5/6 singles and No. 2 doubles, where she had a 17-match singles winning streak and a 15-match doubles winning streak during the season. Ng teamed up with Perene Wang to achieve ITA All-American status as a tandem, while also advancing to the ITA Cup doubles title match. Additionally, she was picked to the ITA Indoor Nationals All-Tournament Team at No. 6 singles. Her combination of athletic and academic achievement earned recognized with First Team Academic All-America honors from the College Sports Communicators as well as a spot on the University Athletic Association (UAA) All-Academic Team. Ng wrapped up her collegiate career with a 52-8 singles record and a 70-19 doubles mark.
Tee was selected as the Wilson ITA Central Region Coach of the Year in women’s tennis. It marks his fifth career regional award – he’s received the honor three times on the women’s side (2019, 2022, 2023) and two times on the men’s side (2015, 2018). The UChicago women posted a 23-1 record, returned to the NCAA Division III Championship final and took runner-up for the second-straight year. The Maroons set new school records for wins in a season and consecutive wins. They repeated as ITA Indoor National Champions and picked up their second-straight UAA championship. Sylwia Mikos (singles/doubles), Shianna Guo (singles/doubles), Ng (doubles) and Wang (doubles) each earned ITA All-American status.
In his 11 years at UChicago, Tee has led the women to a 164-55 overall record with nine NCAA postseason appearances.
