Mt. Bachelor, the largest resort in the Pacific Northwest (located in Bend, Oregon), opened this weekend, much to the celebration of skiers who have been waiting to click in and explore the Stratovolcano.
Officials at Mt. Bachelor announced their “re-opening day” as of December 8th, the Friday of this weekend.
Current conditions at Mt. Bachelor are wet and potentially still snowy as a couple more inches are predicted to fall overnight.
There is a 29 inch base, with 64 inches of snowfall so far this season.
Mt. Bachelor receives an average snowfall of 410 inches per year, so there is a lot of improvement still on the way.
Mt. Bachelor originally delayed opening due to lack of snow, from November 24th to “indefinite” on the 17th. To open, a solid baselayer was needed (20 inches, to be exact).
Due to the dry start to the season, Mt. Bachelor was unable to open on its intended weekend, but it was for the prioritization of guest safety.

Last year, Mt. Bachelor opened on Nov. 30, but the year before the ski area was not able to open until Dec. 13, and only with limited lifts.
Everyone who purchased passes for the scheduled but unopened weekend was refunded.
We’re glad the ski season is getting into its full swing and we can hope for certain trails at the resorts instead of hoping we can ski at all.
