The Dodgers have made it no secret that they are planning on going after two-way superstar free agent Shohei Ohtani, and they remain the frontrunners for his services. Ohtani is the biggest star in the game today and the Dodgers are expected to be aggressive in trying to land him.
The team has wanted him in Dodger Blue for some time now, and this is another chance for them to make it happen. They can offer him the best of both worlds — the financial compensation and the ability to win each season.
But in addition to Ohtani, the Dodgers remain interested in upgrading their starting rotation for next year. It is a clear need for LA, and they have been linked to multiple top-tier players this offseason. One of those is Japanese pitching sensation Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who is expected to be posted from his club soon.
Now one MLB analyst believes that it may be looking like the Dodgers could land both Ohtani and Yamamoto this offseason.
“That’s what it looks like. Dodgers have been talking a lot of chips off the table.”
Per MLB Network
Yamamoto is seen by many as the best pitcher to come from Japan, and he would be a real game-changer for this LA starting rotation. He would give them an ace-level pitcher for the foreseeable future, and he would be someone to build around.
He is only 25 years old and has dominant stuff on the mound. Yamamoto also reportedly prefers to land on the West Coast, so his preference could end up benefitting the Dodgers.
If the Dodgers were to land both Ohtani and Yamamoto, it would be a major boost to their roster. Both are great players and they would give LA a very realistic chance to win the World Series, not only next season but going forward.
Fans have been asking for the team to go all-in for a while now, and this could be the year to do it. It remains to be seen if they land either one of them, but the hope is that LA lands both players when all is said and done.
