Skiers across the country are currently scouring the internet for long-range weather forecasts, winter snowfall predictions, and any other source that will confirm that their wildest dreams of a powder-filled season will come true.
Predictions of a ‘strong El Niño’ has dominated the weather news cycle over the last few months. Meteorologist POW Ponder on Weather has created a helpful video that uses data from previous strong El Niños to predict what will happen this winter.
Check out his thoughts on the coming season’s snowfall in the segment below. He starts by analyzing data from previous ‘weak’ El Niños.
It’s important to remember that no meteorologist, no matter how intelligent or adept, can predict the weather with 100% accuracy. Not yet, at least.
With that said, it appears that POW Ponder on Weather agrees with other meteorologists that places like Lake Tahoe, The San Juans of Southern Colorado, northern New Mexico, and even Northern Arizona could see above-average snowfall should a strong El Niño develop.
On the flip side, snowfall in the Pacific Northwest, Northern Rockies, Midwest, and Mid-Atlantic could be well below-average.
Whether your region is forecasted to have a big year or not it’s important to remember one thing- skiing is skiing. What exactly do I mean by that? You ask…
Skiing is skiing no matter the conditions. Whether you’re sliding on sheer ice in northern Indiana or blasting through waist deep powder in Utah, you’re skiing, and that’s all that matters.
Mother Nature will have the ultimate say. Don’t let these forecasts get you down!
