Jon Rahm’s joining LIV Golf caused a lot of reaction. While on the one hand PGA Tour players and officials are disappointed by the Spaniard’s decision, LIV Golfers and their leaders are happy and excited that Rahm will be part of this Tour.
The Fairway to Heaven podcast was an opportunity for LIV Golf captain Joaquin Niemann to express his excitement about the arrival of Rahm. Niemann put special emphasis on the team aspect of LIV Golf and expects Rahm to do well in such a format.
“I think Jon (Rahm) is going to bring a lot to the team event. I think, obviously we’ve seen how good he plays in Ryder Cups and how good he is as a team player. Almost every other country, except for the US, we are born playing team events for our countries.
Jon is one of those who grew up playing from Spain and you grew up playing for teammates and leading a team. I think we understand better how important the team aspect is. And we didn’t have this opportunity in professional golf.
“- Niemann said, as quoted by MIRROR!
Joaquin Niemann’s expectations
The arrival of such players will certainly affect the popularity of LIV Golf. Jon Rahm was one of the best players playing on the PGA Tour, and many were not optimistic that he would make such a decision.
Now that he is part of LIV Golf, Niemann and others expect Rahm to bring an excitement factor and increase the quality of this competition. Many are impatiently waiting for his debut, and hope for great performances from the Spaniard.
“So, I think it’s going to be huge to have Jon as a captain, as a team leader and how he would do with his teammates,” Neimann added. “So, it would be also nice to play against him. I think he’s one of the best players.”
