Italian journalist Carlo Vanzini has spoken about the Las Vegas Grand Prix, which will take place this weekend at the new 6.2km, 17-turn street track that winds its way past iconic locations like Caesars Palace, the Bellagio and the Venetian. The Sky Sport journalist has described Formula 1 as a “victim” of Red Bull’s dominance which has inevitably led to clickbait articles in the media due to the lack of interest in the 2023 Formula 1 season.
Carlo Vanzini’s comments
Here’s what Carlo Vanzini writes about it in the latest issue of Autosprint magazine: “Formula 1, a victim of Max Verstappen and Red Bull’s dominance, suffers from a shortage of topics and therefore clickbait articles pop up like mushrooms with absolute certainty.”
“In Qatar, they weren’t supposed to race,” “MADNESS,” etc., shout the headlines on pages that, in the end, would make sense interestingly, even to pronounce anything. Too bad. Too bad because we need fans to share their love. […] Too bad because, for example, in Qatar, there is not a driver who has expressed dissent about racing; on the contrary, Lewis Hamilton was thrilled about it,” he added.
Then he talked about the upcoming round of the 2023 Formula 1 season, the Las Vegas GP: “We’re just a few days ahead of the Las Vegas weekend, and here, even before a mega-event that is exciting the drivers because they also want to experience special, different, and unique atmospheres, everything is already wrong. Everything, nothing is saved.” – the Italian journalist pointed out.
“But would we like to give it some time to improve situations that will surely need fixing? No! […] Fortunately, in the last race, we were in Brazil because if that storm on Friday had arrived a little earlier or on a new exotic track… heavens open… ‘YOU SHOULDN’T RACE HERE’… and so on for every new track. Brazil is saved because it’s historic? Because it’s Senna’s home?” he stated.
Finally, he concluded by commenting on the approach of social media: “Let’s tell the situations for what they are with the pleasure of doing so and without the ambition that I see in many, to have absolute certainty about many situations. […] So I don’t condemn; on the contrary, I understand. I highlight the opportunity that wasn’t there before, for those who would like to do this job, and I’m sorry to see that some might miss that opportunity, instead getting lost in populism. Let’s move forward, heading to Las Vegas, preparing, as those who live on social media know, the popcorn.”
Carlo Vanzini’s words are strong, urging people to experience F1 for what it is rather than distorting reality for a few more clicks.
