I don’t know anymore. I really don’t.
Freestyle and park skiing have reached a point where skiers are doing tricks that don’t make sense.
Case in point: this trick from Finland’s Juho Saastamoinen. Try and figure out what’s going on here. I know I couldn’t.
And make sure you stick around for the second clip. The first one’s wild, but the second one truly enters wacky-beyond-belief territory.

There are always a few chronically slept-on characters in the wide world of skiing. Saastamoinen, whom I hadn’t heard of until today, clearly fits that profile.
Why?
Well, besides the obvious absurdity of the trick you just watched, Saastamoinen has a deep bag of next-level maneuvers. For instance, the guy casually did a quad backflip last season. No one does that besides aerialists utilizing jumps with near-vertical takeoffs.

And, as you might expect, Saastamoinen has a bit of stuntman DNA in him, as evidenced by this face-first leap off a bridge into a pool of water that, to put it politely, looks fetid.

Finally, I’d be remiss not to include whatever the heck is going on here.

Bottom line, Saastamoinen should be on your radar if he isn’t already. He has that rare combination of creativity and unbridled talent. Magic starts to happen when you get those two traits in one skier.
