The Los Angeles Dodgers got on the board in the first inning of Friday’s game against the San Diego Padres thanks to a Freddie Freeman opposite-field home run at Camelback Ranch on Friday afternoon.
The home run came on the first pitch he saw of Cactus League play against right-hander Jhony Brito.
Freeman took a fastball on the outside corner and drove it flawlessly over the wall in left-center field — his favorite spot to drive the ball — to give the Dodgers a loud 1-0 lead over the visiting Padres.
Will Smith and Max Muncy followed with loud flyouts to centerfield with Muncy’s landing on the warning track.
Freeman batted .331/.410/.977 last season with 29 home runs and 102 runs batted in.
