After news this morning dropped that the Dodgers were trading away left-hander Caleb Ferguson to the New York Yankees, most expected some sort of corresponding move to take place. Shortly after the trade, the Dodgers agree to re-sign veteran right-handed reliever Ryan Braiser.
There had been talk for weeks of a possible reunion with Brasier, but now it’s official. He returns to the bullpen for next season after dominating in the second half of 2023 with Los Angeles.
The deal is for two years, $9 million. The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported the contract details.
Brasier joined the Dodgers on a minor-league contract last June and worked his way onto the big-league club. He posted an ERA of 0.70 and a WHIP of 0.72 over 39 games for the team.
The Dodgers relied on Brasier in the second half of the season and believe that they can replicate his results. This is a low-risk contract for a guy who made a massive impact last season.
He will be turning 37 next season but showed he is valuable to the structure of the bullpen. The Dodgers have gone all-in this offseason, and this signing is another example of their intent on winning a World Series.
