As the Dodgers enter into the offseason, they are left trying to figure out what happened during their playoff series with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Their pitching completely imploded, and the bats went ice-cold again in the postseason.
It’s something that LA must deal with this winter, otherwise, they will be back in the same place next season. They have a clear need for starting pitching, but there are other areas that the Dodgers could look into as well.
In addition to their other needs, the Dodgers could always restart talks that they had prior to the trade deadline with the St. Louis Cardinals.
“They have two premier catching prospects in Diego Cartaya and Dalton Rushing, both of whom are blocked by Will Smith. Miguel Vargas and Michael Busch, without set positions on a major league infield, would also intrigue other teams. Perhaps they rekindle trade talks with the St. Louis Cardinals for Nolan Arenado.”

LA has a ton of good prospects in their farm system, but the reality that is many of them won’t be able to produce for them in the big leagues. This is a move for the team to take a swing on, and Arenado is worth the cost of a few prospects.
If the Dodgers were to reengage with the Cardinals on Arenado, it could be one of the big pickups that the team is expected to make this offseason. They have a clear need at third base, and Arenado could easily fill that role.
Last season for the Cardinals, Arenado hit .266 with 26 home runs and 93 runs batted in. He would help solidify a position for years to come.
While he isn’t the defender that he once was, he would still bring strong defensive ability and a bat that could really boost this offense. Arenado has wanted to be a member of the Dodgers for a long time as well, so he would likely be extremely motivated to help get this team over the hump.
It would help reenergize the fanbase as well, which is something that the front office needs to do this winter. Grabbing Arenado, a few starting pitchers and possibly Shohei Ohtani would be seen as the Dodgers going all-in for the first time, and it’s about time they finally did something like that.
