The Dodgers’ priority this offseason is starting pitching, plain and simple. It’s no secret around the league that the Dodgers are looking all over for help in their rotation. While the team has been looking at the top of the market, they also will need to fill the rotation out with some lower-tiered guys. LA loves to bring on reclamation projects each season, and they have a clear target this season: Lucas Giolito.
The right-hander has been linked with the Dodgers for a long time now, and they almost landed him at the trade deadline. LA has been interested in Giolito for a while, and they may be able to get him on a cheaper deal this winter.
However, if the Dodgers do indeed want Giolito, they will have some competition for him. MLB Network insider Jon Morosi is reporting that four other teams are looking at Giolito this offseason.
Giolito’s second half of the season was one to forget. He posted an ERA of 3.79 over 21 games with the Chicago White Sox, but once he was traded away, things went downhill. Giolito saw his ERA balloon to 6.89 over six starts with the Los Angeles Angels before he was put on waivers.
He was then claimed by the Cleveland Guardians and things didn’t get any better for him. His ERA rose to 7.04 over six starts. Now, Giolito will be looking to recover value around the league and the Dodgers are exactly the team to make it happen.
Giolito would slot right in toward the back end of the Dodgers’ rotation and give them arguably the best No. 4 or 5 starter in the game. He makes perfect sense for LA this offseason, and the hope is that they can land him to bolster the rotation next year.
