The Dodgers’ issues within their infield have been widely reported, especially of late. Just last week, the team decided to replace Gavin Lux with Mookie Betts over at the shortstop position due to problems on defense.
Betts had been training all offseason to play second base but is now being asked to switch positions again just weeks before the start of the season. It’s a temporary fix for Los Angeles, but one that they do need to address at some point.
All offseason there were reports that the Dodgers looked into upgrading at shortstop, mainly with Willy Adames of the Milwaukee Brewers being discussed. Well, it seems that the team remains interested in bringing the right-handed shortsop to town.
The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya reported that interest, but that Milwaukee has been reluctant to move him.
“The Dodgers remain interested in Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames, a league source said, though the Brewers have been reluctant to move the 28-year-old pending free agent.”
Per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic
Bringing in Adames would help shore up the infield defense, while also allowing Betts to move back to second base. He is a good defender, whose bat could provide even more spark to the Dodgers offense.
Last season with the Brewers, Adames hit .217 with 24 home runs and 80 runs batted in.
This is a connection that isn’t going away anytime soon and will likely follow both teams until the trade deadline. But as the problems within the infield get worse on the field, the calls for a move will only get louder.
