It was another day and unfortunately another loss for your Los Angeles Dodgers as they fell 7-3 to the San Francisco Giants on Sunday afternoon at Dodger Stadium. This time though, it was a different scenario than the usual as starting pitcher Tony Gonsolin’s rough middle innings did him — and the Dodgers in. Seven runs over three innings from the 4th to the 6th put the Dodgers behind the 8 ball and it proved to be a hole too deep to climb out of in the loss.
The bullpen, meanwhile, flipped the script on Sunday as a combination of Victor Gonzalez, Yency Almonte, and Evan Phillips put up 3.1 scoreless innings of work behind the Cat Man. It was a significant departure from what had been a continuing downward spell for the bullpen, performances that earned the relief group criticism courtesy of manager Dave Roberts.
Aside from the play on the field, right fielder — and occasional infield savior — Mookie Betts made news on Sunday as he announced his intention to participate in the Home Run Derby, if one particular condition was met. Also Roberts heaped praise on new Dodger Emmet Sheehan, who had a spectacular debut this weekend. You can see all of the latest Dodger headlines below!
