An ugly scene out of Texas on Friday night as the Dodgers and Rangers match up for the first of three games this weekend. In the bottom of the 8th inning, former Dodger Corey Seager was thrown out at second base while trying to stretch a single to a double and appeared to injure his right shoulder while holding onto the second base bag.
He got up out of his slide in obvious pain and ran straight into the tunnel of the Rangers’ dugout to get checked out.
Texas challenged the out call and Seager was ruled safe, getting around Mookie Betts throw and Miguel Rojas’s tag in his slide. But, it may have cost him dearly.
Josh Smith pinch ran for Corey after the out call was overturned on the replay and he stayed in to finish the game at shortstop.
Seager had 2 hits — one of those was a solo home run — and a walk in his first game against his old club. He’s in the middle of an incredible season for the Rangers, hitting .350 with a 1.044 OPS in 66 games. He missed time earlier in the season with a hamstring injury.
