Dodgers star Mookie Betts is in the midst of a special season. He is currently one of the favorites to win the NL MVP award and has helped carry LA toward the top of the league.
However, if you ask him about his numbers, he would tell you that he could care less. Betts is all in on winning games and another World Series title.
“I work so hard. I work really hard to be where I am now, and I’m going to continue to work hard. (I) just kind of take (the numbers) in stride,” Betts said. “Whatever comes comes. I don’t get too high. I don’t get too low. I don’t really pay attention to numbers. I just want to win. That’s all I care about.”
Per Dodgers Insider
This is a unique mindset to have, especially for a player on the level of Betts. Often, guys want to get their numbers as well, but for Betts, winning is everything.
For the season, the Dodgers leadoff hitter is hitting .298 with 34 home runs and 86 runs batted in. It’s been a great year for him and he has continued to build on his production as the year has gone on.
The consistency of Betts has been the most impressive part of this season. He has led by example for the rest of the guys on the team, and it has resulted in LA hitting reaching awesome heights.
He has helped set the tone for this season, showing that hard work does pay off. LA was supposed to take a step back this year after losing a ton of talent in the offseason. But Betts has reminded everyone of his greatness and helped keep them afloat while the team got their footing.
The Dodgers are currently the second-best team in the league and are rolling right now. They have won 17 of 19 games in the month of August and will look to continue their winning ways as they head out on a road trip.
LA will head to Cleveland and Boston throughout next week before returning home for a matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
