In sports, being multi-faceted has become something of a luxury despite its overall importance to a team.
Having the ability to win games in multiple ways is normally what separates good teams from great teams. You see it all the time in every sport like clockwork.
This year’s version of the Los Angeles Dodgers have seemed to figure out how to win games in different ways, and it has allowed them to find tons of success. This skill should bode well come playoff time when things get tighter.
LA is currently riding a 10-game winning streak into Thursday’s series finale against the Brewers, and they have won those games in different ways each day. It’s a testament to the organization for the roster construction and coaching staff for putting guys in positions to succeed.
Star utilityman Mookie Betts spoke about the team after their win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night.
“I just feel like they’re kind of different wins,” Betts said of the 14-1 run to start August. “Sometimes it’s offense, sometimes it’s pitching. Sometimes it’s the top of the lineup, sometimes it’s the bottom of the lineup. We can win in many different ways and I think that’s the main thing. What stands out is the variety of ways we can win and variety of ways we can get things done. That’s why we’ve been playing so good.”

The Dodgers have shown that they can win low-scoring affairs, shootouts and just average-scoring games. They have a team built for success, and it’s showing on the field right now.
Led by Betts and Freddie Freeman, LA has climbed the standings and now sit only a few games back of the best record in the league.
“You really need a couple guys atop the lineup to get teams rolling,” said Betts. “If it’s not me, it’s Freddie. If it’s not Freddie, it’s me. Sometimes it’s both of us. I think we both take ownership of getting us going.”

They have only dropped one game in August so far, pushing their lead in the NL West to 10 games. It’s been extremely impressive to watch play out, and it shows how dangerous this team can be, especially come postseason time.
