Since Dodgers All-Star first baseman Freddie Freeman joined Los Angeles last season, he has quickly become a fan favorite. For so long, Freeman was the enemy during his time with the Atlanta Braves, but now he is back home with LA.
Tuesday was his birthday, and the Dodgers gave him the best gift of all, a win. But throughout the game, there were different moments to help celebrate it.
“Before the game was over “Do the Freddie” from Freddie and the Dreamers provided a bouncy transition into the ninth inning and chants of “Fred-die, Fred-die, Fred-die,” rained down from the stands, with most fans clad in giveaway Freeman jerseys.”
Per Doug Padilla of The OC Register
Freeman spoke about playing on his birthday and celebrating it with all of the Dodger fans.
“The song … I really don’t know what to make of it,” Freeman said. “But the dance, the crowd, the fans, everywhere we’ve been going on the road, we’ve been having fun as a group this year. I think the fans have noticed that we have been having a lot of fun and they’ve been taking to it. It was fun. It was just a good birthday.”

The All-Star provided some of the support in the win, blasting a two-run home run in the third inning. It helped lead to a blowout victory for LA.
The way that the fans have embraced Freeman has been great to see, and vice-versa. It was hard for him to leave Atlanta after all those years there, but LA has taken him in as one of their own. Freeman has spoken about it in the past, but this celebration of his birthday from the fans meant a lot to him.
“You’ve got a four-deck stadium, the only one in baseball, you have 50,000 people here every night, for them to go out of their way to make you feel good when you’re doing your job, it means a lot,” Freeman said. “I do appreciate it.”

The veteran was all smiles during the game on Tuesday, as he couldn’t help but embrace the fans. It didn’t hurt that the team was winning big either, but it was just a great night for him.
Freeman and the Dodgers have fit together well, and they still have plenty of time left on his contract. His goal is to bring a World Series to the city of LA, and the Dodgers have a good shot to do just that this season.
