There are many different aspects people can point to that caused the Dodgers collapse in the postseason this year, but the biggest issue for them was the lack of offensive production. Simply put, the bats went ice cold when the team needed them most and LA couldn’t recover.
After a year that set records offensively, it was a strange sight indeed. Entering their series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, most people were worried about how the pitching would hold up, but in the end, the offense doomed them once again.
The Dodger’s two best players who carried them all season long, went 1-21 combined in the series. That isn’t going to get it done in the postseason.
President of baseball operations Andrew Friedman finally spoke about the bitter playoff sweep and said that he was surprised that the offense spun out like it did.
“For offense to be an issue this year was really surprising to us,” Friedman said. “We scored over 900 runs for the first time in Los Angeles Dodgers history. It’s the best offensive team we’ve had in this run. So that was surprising to us. Obviously, there are three-game snippets throughout the year where our offense doesn’t perform. How much of it is that? How much of it is other things? I don’t know the answer. And a lot of these things it’s hard to know the answer to. “

This was one of the weirder postseasons in recent memory for the Dodgers, and now they enter into the offseason with all sorts of questions. It’s another year on the docket where the team underperformed in October, and fans have had enough of it.
Friedman continued his thoughts, discussing what the team could do about their October issues.
“There is an element that is October theater and just what plays out on a daily and nightly basis. And there’s other things that we can do a better job of. How to separate those, it’s incumbent upon us to figure out.”

No matter what the Dodgers do this offseason, they need to change the way they approach things. They can’t continue to operate within the status quo, otherwise, we will be right back in this situation all over again next year.
