ROCHESTER, N.Y. – University of Chicago’s Simon Dixon submitted an All-American finish to highlight day two of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday.
Dixon competed in the men’s shot put and picked up his second All-American award of the year in the event. The Maroon rookie put up a personal best on his third throw, with a heave of 16.88 meters. That mark helped him secure fifth place overall to earn a spot on the podium. Dixon previously took third in the shot put at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
In the women’s shot put finals, Molly Laumakis finished 19th with a throw of 13.04 meters.
The women’s 100-meter prelims saw Gabriela Meschino win her heat with a time of 11.86. The junior automatically qualified for Saturday’s final.
Maya Ordonez was ninth in the women’s 800-meter prelim that saw the top-nine runners finish within 1.04 seconds of each other. Ordonez narrowly missed qualifying for the final by less than 0.01 seconds.
Loren Brown competed in the women’s 100-meter hurdles prelim and placed 15th in 14.19.
