Following yesterday’s final press conference for this weekend’s Showtime PPV main event between Demetrius Andrade and David Benavidez, Andrade chats with boxing media about the fight and why he’s prepared for this moment. Check out some excerpts of what he had to say below.
Andrade on being so calm and composed heading into this fight with Benavidez
“Just like any other fight, man. We do what we do, I’m confident, been doing this for a long time, and we’re just ready to rumble at this point. I don’t need to do the whole back-and-forth stuff like that; I do it in my own way and I always do the talking with my hands as well. So 32-0 for a reason and come the 25th you guys are going to get to see the best Andrade.”
On what a win over Benavidez will do for his career
“Just this fight alone already changes the dynamics of things because at the end of the day a lot of stuff that was out there, ‘oh, this and that,’ well that’s just answered by me taking this fight, by him taking this fight. So at the end of the day it’s the best two guys fighting at this weight class.”
On if he expects to make Benavidez look average
“Skills pay the bills, man. Skills pay the bills, and not that he’s not skillful — he’s a tough, strong guy that’s going to come forward and put his own will — but I have the sauce. Like I said, that signature stuff, man. I can break him down, get him frustrated, do a lot of things, and hit him. So it’s all good.”
On his amateur pedigree and his other contemporaries from his Olympic class
“Wilder, Rau’shee Warren, Gary Russell, Sadam Ali I believe…as far as the whole pedigree, Danny Garcia, Danny Jacobs, this guy, that guy, Shawn Porter. Everybody was in those class but they just didn’t make it to the Olympics. But just traveling the world with them guys, we got to experience life, and was able to learn from each other and just grow and grind.”
