Daniel Ricciardo has been racing in F1 since 2011, where he started racing for the Red Bull junior team Toro Rosso (now AlphaTauri). He moved up to the Red Bull racing team in 2014, where he won seven Grand Prix races throughout his tenure. In 2019, he moved to the Renault team, then in 2021, moved to McLaren (where he won his eighth Grand Prix).
During the 2022 season with McLaren, Ricciardo consistently placed outside of the points (lower than 10th place on the grid). Despite the fact that Ricciardo had delivered the first Grand Prix win for McLaren since Lewis Hamilton in 2012, the McLaren team bought Ricciardo out of his 2023 contract and replaced him with rookie Oscar Piastri.
Since the 2023 season began in March 2023, Ricciardo has acted as the reserve driver for the Red Bull Racing team. In July 2023, AlphaTauri announced that Ricciardo would be joining the team on loan from Red Bull, replacing de Vries for the remainder of the season.
