Longtime Dodgers ace and current free agent Clayton Kershaw was honored by his high school on Thursday with a jersey retirement ceremony. He wasn’t the only person getting honored, though.
Alongside Kershaw was the general manager of the Texas Rangers, Chris Young, also getting his jersey retired. The Highland Park Scots posted pictures of the two honorees on social media.
This is an incredible honor for Kershaw, and honestly, a little surprising it even took this long. He’s done nothing but dominate since debuting in Major League Baseball back in 2008.
All that domination has come with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but this offseason, Kershaw is yet to make a decision about his future.
It’s widely expected that he’s deciding between the Dodgers and hometown Rangers, so the fact that the Rangers’ GM got a little one-on-one time with Kershaw has to have Dodger fans a little nervous.
Kershaw underwent surgery to repair the glenohumeral ligament in his shoulder, and said he’s expecting to pitch sometime this summer. Thus, he’s in no rush to make his free agent decision, and can figure out what’s best for him and his family as he enters his age-36 season.
A majority of Dodger fans still want Kershaw back, as do his teammates and Dodger staffers. But as of now, Kershaw has given no information on where he’ll go, and when he’ll make his decision.
