All-around action sports athlete Chuck Patterson has a new, bold claim to fame.
In an Instagram post shared earlier this week, Patterson stated that he tackled the imposing waves of Nazarè, Portugal, on a pair of water skis—likely becoming the first person in the world to do so.

The videos of said stunt are presumably forthcoming, so I’d keep your eyes trained on Patterson’s Instagram.
If, at this point, you’re wondering what the big deal with Nazarè is, let me give you a brief introduction. In Red Bull’s list of the biggest waves ever surfed, the top three positions took place in Nazarè.
Now, on paper, that’s pretty impressive, but this video of the TUDOR Nazaré Big Wave Challenge should provide a little more context.
This won’t be Patterson’s first water skiing (wave skiing?) rodeo. Last year, he shared a video of him dropping in on a wave at Maverick’s Beach, California, another world-renowned surf destination that produces colossal waves.
