Dave Roberts is entering his ninth season as the manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers. In his eight years thus far, all the Dodgers have done is win. However, with just one World Series title to his name, Roberts continues to get tons of backlash from fans.
The players, however, tell a different story.
In an interview with our very own Doug McKain, Taylor detailed what makes Roberts such a great manager for the Boys in Blue.
“He’s been doing it for a long time. He knows how to deal with teams that have more than nine everyday players. He knows how to manage that and keep guys happy and guys that are used to playing every single day that come to us and that’s not always the case. It can be a tricky situation to deal with that because everybody wants to be out there everyday. It’s not an easy job he has, and I think he does a pretty good job of that.”

Roberts has done a stellar job at the helm in Los Angeles. He’s led the Dodgers to a 753-442 record, a .630 win percentage, and seven National League West titles. He ranks fourth in Los Angeles Dodgers manager wins, trailing only Hall of Famers Wilbert Robinson, Tommy Lasorda, and Walter Alston. Roberts is already in insane company in Dodger lore, and there’s no sign of that stopping anytime soon.
The 51-year-old and former National League Manger of the Year is big on communication and being personable, according to Taylor.
“He’s pretty laid back and he’s always, everyday he tries to say hello to every single person on the team. When he comes on the field, he makes sure he’s present. He makes sure he’s reaching out to every single guy. And I think that’s important to have that communication each and every day. We all have a mutual respect in the clubhouse.”

The players and Dodgers’ organization loves Roberts, that’s for sure. Will the entire fan base ever reciprocate those feelings? Maybe with a couple more World Series titles.
