It’s not just top drivers at the center of market negotiations. Adrian Newey is as much in demand as the most sought-after drivers, coveted just like Max Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton. According to increasingly insistent rumors, the financial offers coming to the sixty-five-year-old British engineer are getting closer to those of the top drivers.
The latest offer to the current Red Bull technical director comes from Aston Martin. It’s not the first time Lawrence Stroll has made a move; on other occasions, the owner of the Silverstone team had put a very tempting proposal on the table, yet failing to convince Newey to change teams.
The proposal was made during the Jeddah weekend. A seemingly casual meeting between Newey and Stroll (staying in the same hotel) and the promise of a meeting to discuss things further. Adrian is used to receiving excellent offers, but in the last twenty years, no one has been able to lure him away from Milton Keynes. Stability, a winning period, great autonomy, and a matching salary have always deterred him from multimillion-dollar temptations.
However, today there are some variables that might have changed the scenario, and hence the possibility that Newey might make different decisions than in the past. The earthquake that hit Red Bull will require a period of adjustment, and it’s not certain that the team’s structure (as well as the power map) will not undergo significant changes.
If there are changes, Adrian Newey will assess how his habitat might be affected; without major upheavals, the prospect of ending his career at Red Bull is realistically the most likely. Conversely, the idea of taking on a new challenge by moving just 30 kilometers (the distance between Red Bull’s Milton Keynes base and Aston Martin’s in Silverstone) represents the most interesting opportunity.
Another aspect brought to the table by Stroll is noteworthy. In 2026, the Silverstone team will become the official team of Honda, a partner Adrian Newey knows very well and has never hidden his appreciation for. On paper, the Japanese company’s supply offers more guarantees than Red Bull’s ‘powertrain’ project, even though the planning of the new engine designed and built in Milton Keynes has started on time and with a strong recruitment campaign of specialized personnel.

At sixty-five, it’s also time for Adrian Newey to consider what could be the last great challenge, namely the generation of single-seaters that will race in 2026. If he feels the need for a change, Aston Martin has everything to be the alternative that best suits his needs.
Ferrari’s Interest
However, Scuderia Ferrari’s interest exists and is still very strong. According to information reported by the Italian media, the contacts between Adrian Newey and the Maranello team are still very intense. In fact, there is a market duel between Ferrari and Aston Martin to secure the brilliant designer. The Italian side has been in contact with the British engineer for some time, and the advanced state of the negotiations has been confirmed. While the Ferrari option is certainly fascinating for a number of reasons (not least the side project in boating), the Aston Martin option has also been considered, since the Silverstone headquarters is just a step away from Milton Keynes.
