No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz and No. 3 seed Daniil Medvedev both advanced to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open on Monday.
Alcaraz rolled past Miomir Kecmanovic 6-4, 6-4, 6-0 in one hour and 49 minutes and Medvedev needed four sets to dispatch Portuguese star Nuno Borges.
The young Spaniard will next face No. 6 Alexander Zverev, who needed five sets to dispatch No. 19 seed Cameron Norrie.
The final fourth round match of the day saw No. 9 seed Hubert Hurkacz dismiss Arthur Cazaux in three sets.
On the women’s side, No. 19 seed Elina Svitolina was forced with retire with back spasms after trailing 3-0 in the first set against Linda Noskova. Noskova will next face Dayana Yastremska, who ousted two-time former winner Victoria Azarenka in straight sets.
Elsewhere, No. 12 seed Qinwen Zheng and Anna Kalinskaya also made the final eight of the event.
Tuesday’s quarterfinal action in Melbourne will feature top seed Novak Djokovic, No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka, and No. 4 seed Jannik Sinner and Coco Gauff.
