One of the secrets behind Jannik Sinner’s growth was certainly his super coach, Darren Cahill. The young Italian’s choice to include such an expert member in his team proved to be a winning choice. And despite a not very brilliant start to 2023, Sinner has had constant growth, from the Wimbledon semifinal to the triumph in the Davis Cup.
The Australian coach has put all his experience at the service of the Italian tennis player and, together with Simone Vagnozzi, they have built a fantastic team capable of helping and supporting Jannik in the most difficult moments.
In an exclusive interview given to Corriere dello Sport, Cahill revealed what the goals to pursue in 2024 will be.
Cahill speaks clearly: “The goal is to win a Slam”
“I’m not surprised by the level Jannik Sinner has reached in recent weeks.
I know the tennis he can express and what we can see in the future. He still has ample room for improvement and, for this very reason, working with him is exciting. Now he always understands the game better, he knows his body even more, he listens to it.
They are apparently small details that however make the difference. The work done with Umberto Ferrara, physical trainer, in the last two years is bearing great fruit. Jannik is much stronger, tougher and even faster. I firmly believe that Jannik will win a Slam, that is the goal.
I don’t know when, but he is capable of it. He needs resilience, confidence and even a pinch of luck. His potential has no limits. We have to be good at not putting pressure on him. The Olympic Games are an absolute priority for Jannik, who loves playing for Italy.
The Olympics are already on our agenda,” explained Cahill. In the second match of the season, in addition to the first ATP Masters 1000 won in Toronto, Sinner won the ATP 500 tournaments in Beijing and Vienna, beating Daniil Medvedev in both cases in the final, reached the final at the Masters Tournament and brought the Cup back to Italy Davis after 47 years.
