Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev will face off in one of Friday’s US Open semi-finals after both men progressed through their quarter-finals with straight-sets victories.
The first to make the last four was Daniil Medvedev, who played the day session on Ashe in 34-degree heat, which caused both players to struggle physically. However, the third seed found that bit extra to come through 6-4, 6-3, 6-4.
Carlos Alcaraz then made relatively light work of Sascha Zverev, holding firm in a few close games early doors and pulling away after the effects of the German’s physical battle with Jannik Sinner started to show.

Medvedev Moves Past Rublev
Daniil Medvedev took down his excellent friend Andrey Rublev 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 to reach the semi-finals in New York for the fourth time.
While the score looks straightforward, Medvedev was a break down in each set. Still, he recovered and performed more decisive in the critical moments despite the 34-degree heat and humidity, which proved difficult for both players to handle, with Daniil taking two medical timeouts. There were 14 breaks of serve in the match.
Meddy now has a 6-2 lead in the H2H with Rublev, who has still not been able to progress past a Grand Slam quarter-final and the 3rd seed has his number over their last few matches.
It was brutal. The only good thing I see in these conditions is that both suffer. It was tough for both of us. There were some ups and downs but that is so normal. At the end of the first set I sort of could not see the ball anymore. I played with sensations. I tried to go for it, tried to run and he did the same. Before points I was like, ‘Wow, he can’t run anymore’, so I tried to go and make him run and run and run, but he was there all the time. But we were tired all the time. Brutal conditions and super tough to win. I know he never gives up, but he knows I never give up. In the third set, when he was up a break two or three times, I could not wait to go to the cold shower. Apparently, when you go to the cold shower, when you come out, you either can’t move because your body locks, or you feel better, but I was like, ‘I don’t care, I will just see what happens’. Luckily I did not need to do it, so I will go now. Medvedev on his win and the temperatures in New York.

Alcaraz Closing In On Title Defence
Carlos Alcaraz is within two wins of successfully defending his US Open title with a comfortable 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 over Sascha Zverev in the night session on Arthur Ashe.
The Spaniard would have been the strong favourite had both men started on an even keel, but given Zverev’s exploits two nights ago against Jannik Sinner in a five-setter that nearly lasted five hours, he was an even more of a certainty to come through.
In the early stages, the German proved an able foil for Alcarraz, with both men trading blows from the baseline, but a loose game at 3-4 gave Alcaraz the first set, and from there, it was plane sailing.
The 12th seed needed that first set at all costs for a psychological boost, and in the second, his footspeed dwindled, allowing Alcaraz to breeze through the following two sets without facing too much trouble.
I’m very, very comfortable playing in this court, playing here in New York. I am showing my best level here. Last year was very tough, since the fourth round, I played five sets [to get to the final]. Here, I’ve played just one match that has gone to four sets. I feel great physically, and I’m ready to play a great battle with Medvedev in the semi-finals. Alcaraz on breezing through to the semi finals.
