Why did you choose UChicago? The strong economics program as well as the prospect of being a part of the school’s first-ever NCAA national championship.
Favorite moment of your UChicago athletic career? Winning UAAs and NCAAs junior year.
Favorite team tradition/activity? At the start of the year, the team competes against each other in a non-tennis related Olympic games. It’s always a fun time and a great way to get to know some of the younger guys.
What made you fall in love with your sport originally? My older sister played competitively before I did and tagging along to her tournaments made me excited to play as well.
What lessons have you learned through competing in your sport that have stuck with you? While tennis is an individual sport, the network it creates and the people it brings into your life are what matter most.
What advice would you give to your first-year teammates? Time goes by fast. Make the most of each moment you have and think about how you want the team to look like when you’re a senior. Show up every day with that in mind because you’ll be an upperclassman before you know it.
Favorite UChicago class that you learned the most from and why? Managing in Organizations. The course focuses on people’s behavior within the context of an organization and how organizations can successfully coordinate the actions of their members. Not only is this applicable in professional contexts, but also in general team environments such as a tennis team.
Which UChicago faculty or staff member made the greatest impact on you and why? Mary Wisniewski. Mary has always been so accommodating for the players, making sure we are getting the right treatment and staying healthy over the course of the season.
Favorite place on campus? Stagg tennis courts.
Favorite thing to do in the city? Try new restaurants.
What are your post-graduation plans? Investment banking in New York.
Outside of your current sport, which sport or activity do you feel like you would excel at the most? Golf. I always loved playing and watching golf since I was young. It will definitely be my go-to weekend activity once my tennis career ends.
Favorite Chicago restaurant? Baker Dining Commons.
Favorite place you’ve visited? Budapest.
