It’s the current great debate in Major League Baseball: Are the Los Angeles Dodgers ruining the game?
The question has been a major talking point heading into the 2024 MLB regular season. The Dodgers spent a ton of money this offseason to acquire players like Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Tyler Glasnow, assembling what some could consider on paper to be a “superteam.” Over the past few years, the Dodgers have brought in some of the best players, committing more than a billion dollars to acquire free agents like Ohtani, Yamamoto, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Teoscar Hernández and others.
This has caused a variety of stakeholders to wonder if the Dodgers’ way of building a team is good or bad for the sport.
Count Chicago Cubs pitcher Kyle Hendricks firmly in favor of what the Dodgers have done, calling their spending spree “great for the game.”
“It’s going to be a show all year. It’s just a super-exciting team, man, seeing all of those players over there … Just as a baseball fan, it’s super-cool to see how good they are. It’s going to be interesting to see how they go about their business, to see how they perform for a full 162-game season. It’s something we all love to see.”

The Dodgers’ ability to assemble a talented roster poses a threat to the Cubs as National League rivals, but Hendricks seems to respect what they’ve done. Ultimately, the Dodgers’ on-field performance throughout the year and during the postseason will determine if their front office made the wisest investments.
