The Dodgers lose their first series in seven series with the 10-5 loss. They lost back to back games for the first time since April 26 and 27. Clayton Kershaw struggled for his second start in a row, failing to complete 5 innings once again. The starting rotation’s inability to pitch deeper into games has taken its toll on the bullpen that is running on fumes.
There weren’t many but let’s look at the highlights and big moments from this game.
The Cardinals got on the board first with a 3 spot in the 2nd inning of Kersh.
The Dodgers got one back on a sacrifice fly in the top of the third off the bat of David Peralta who was batting leadoff with Mookie Betts getting the day off in St. Louis.
Max Muncy showed his frustration, getting ejected in the 4th inning with the Dodgers down only 3-1 at the time.
The Cards got to Kershaw again in the bottom of the 4th and chased him after just 3.2 innings.
The Dodgers made it interesting for a second with 2 runs in the 5th inning including one on a bases loaded balk before Chris Taylor struck out to end the threat. 4-3 Cardinals lead.
Things went bad quickly again with St. Louis scoring 3 in the bottom on the 5th and 3 more in the bottom of the 7th on this rocket shot off the bat of Paul DeJong.
The Dodgers plated two more on sac flies in the top of the 8th and that’s where the game ended.
The LA bullpen once again had to pick up too many innings and is getting burned from the overuse.
10-5 Cardinals win and let’s just move on to the next one.
The Dodgers continue the tough road trip and look to get back on track against the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves. They’ll do so with back to back rookie starting pitchers on the mound, with Gavin Stone making his second career start and Bobby Miller making his MLB debut.
