The Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals are getting set for a four-game series this weekend at Busch Stadium. The two teams played at Dodger Stadium just three weeks ago, with the Dodgers getting the sweep, and outscoring the Cardinals 14-6 in the three-game series.
Both teams enter this series red-hot, though. The Dodgers have won six consecutive series, and are 15-3 in their last 18 games. The Cardinals, since losing eight straight games (including three to the Dodgers), are 8-2 in their last 10 games.
Both teams have their pitching matchups fully set for the four games, so here is each matchup and everything you need to know about all the pitchers, starting with Thursday’s game:
Thursday, May 18: Dodgers LHP Julio Urias vs. Cardinals RHP Adam Wainwright
Friday, May 19: Dodgers RHP Tony Gonsolin vs. Cardinals LHP Steven Matz
Saturday, May 20: Dodgers RHP Noah Syndergaard vs. Cardinals RHP Miles Mikolas
Sunday, May 21: Dodgers LHP Clayton Kershaw vs. Cardinals RHP Jack Flaherty
Since the teams played three games in Los Angeles three weeks ago, we have some statistics on how some of these pitchers have fared against the opposing team this season.
Here’s the three pitchers’ lines against the opposing team from the series earlier this season:
Noah Syndergaard vs. Cardinals on April 30: 5.1 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 73 pitches, Win
Clayton Kershaw vs. Cardinals on April 29: 7 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 9 K, 88 pitches, Win
Jack Flaherty vs. Dodgers on April 28: 4.2 IP, 7 H, 5 R (4 ER), 2 BB, 7 K, 110 pitches, Loss
The Dodgers will be looking for some length out of their starters, after getting a combined nine innings out of them in the three-game series against the Minnesota Twins that had 31 total innings.
Hopefully Urias can jumpstart that with a strong performance on Thursday.
